Re: NAS4Free 11.1.0.4.4729 released (FreeBSD 11.1-RELEASE-P1)
The embedded version updated OK from the previous version after commenting out these lines in /etc/rc.firmware there:
I also saw that /etc/rc.firmware is quite different now, so I tried to “upgrade” from this version to the same version. Enable Firmware Update button worked fine, but the actual update hung:
Looks like the problem is still related to /dev/console, as the current code does something akin to:
which also hangs on my system.
Code: Select all
exec </dev/console >/dev/console 2>/dev/consoleCode: Select all

Yeah, commenting out that nonsense redirection helps... except for missing /var/tmp/ftpm; the rc.firmware script needs to create that directory if it doesn't exist *before* trying to create a ramdisk in there.
As for
sigh... please revert this. What's the obsession with /dev/console here? Absolutely NOT needed, wanted or desired for updating firmware.

Thanks, indeed, and as you see the throughput is zero but I tested copying two threads and the throughput (112MBpsec) is indicated as:

How can I translate these figures into MBps?..

Re: NAS4Free 11.1.0.4.4729 released (FreeBSD 11.1-RELEASE-P1)
Fixed with this patch (this is against r4738):
As for the first hunk, already explained the missing directory issue.
As for the /cf remount, my guess would be it takes too much time before the image is unpacked, so the previously unmounted /cf gets remounted meanwhile (readonly) and then the subsequent attempt to remount it read/write fails.

As for this commit: https://sourceforge.net/p/nas4free/code/4760/
1/ No it's not created via lighttpd when you relocate lighttpd_uploaddir via rc.conf. There's a perfectly good reason to do that to avoid filling a ramdisk with a large upload...
2/ Why would anyone break firmware upgrade because of this? mkdir it instead of producing annoying needless fatal failure... Ugh. Or, honor $lighttpd_uploaddir instead.

Re: NAS4Free 11.1.0.4.4729 released (FreeBSD 11.1-RELEASE-P1)
N4F - 11.1.0.4.4729 released - embeded
So I have been trying to research why this update has introduced lag when selecting different sections in the webGUI and I see CURL errors in the logs that really haven't helped me track down whats going on.
My knowledge of the internals for NAS4Free are fairly low, as I have not ever had an issue on this system or N4F so never needed under the hood so to speak. This system is now around ten years old though and on a closed network.
So in my quest to trouble shoot whats going on, I tied into my serial port for console access (server board with no video) and found that the only option I can get to work as expected is option 6 to go into the shell. All other options return nothing but a single cairrage return and hang, and nothing even echos on the screen including carriage returns produce no activity in the screen. Ctrl-c will break out and the option menu is re-output.
I seen the update to NAS4Free-x64-embedded-11.1.0.4.4812 so naturally figured the thing to do is update. Updating from the webGUI I get to the screen that the server will reboot, though it never does even after 24hrs.
So I downloaded the USB live image and loaded a USB drive to upgrade, still have the same issues in the console menu as described above. Can't configure interfaces, set an IP, upgrade, or any other option except go to the shell.
So I'm at a complete stand still, not sure where else to look as I have found little in the logs to point me in any direction.
I found this thread and tried:
The update is hung, and the system is not rebooting. Any direction would be appreciated.

Code: Select all
please add in System > Advanced > loader.conf first
name: kern.vty value: vt
and then the second,
name: hw.vga.textmode value: 1
Please reboot and re-flash,
Code: Select all

Re: NAS4Free 11.1.0.4.4729 released (FreeBSD 11.1-RELEASE-P1)
So I managed to fix most of my issues, as there seems to be erroneous characters in the rc.firmware file attached to most of the lines with:
But I was unable to solve why most of the console menu via serial does not work. The only option I can get to function through all recent versions including NAS4Free-x64-*-11.1.0.4.4812 is option to go to shell. All the rest of the options from the serial console menu are not functional. Every function that includes cdialog just hangs.
Code: Select all
</dev/console >/dev/console 2>/dev/console
