Software Bug?? Using 2nd NIC for CIFS/SMB fail

Post by eagle3000 »

Sorry if this has already been reported.

Using Nas4Free 11.0.0.4.

I have two NICs: 1 motherboard-Integrated 100 NIC "A", 1 PCI added-on 1000 NIC "B".
On Interface Management NIC "A" was set for LAN, and NIC"B" was set to OPT1.
On Lan Management both NIcs got their own static I.P. Address.
I activated CIFS/SMB services.
Then on /settings/Interface selection => selected "OPT Only" from the drop down menu.

So far, it seems that Windows mediated access would be set up and ready to go.
On a Windows PC, I tested and confirmed that I could access the server, and read and save files.

However, I wanted to check and see exactly the traffic thru the NICs to make sure only NIC "B" was being used.
I can see this in the Status/Monitoring tab.
I used LAN Speed Test. Sent a 2Gb file and watched the page. On this page I got charts for LAN, OPT1, and CPU Load.
As soon as the file was being written, I was glad to see OPT1 takeoff and report the X Mbit/s, and the numbers
looked like they came from a Gb NIC, which it is.
BUT, when the time for the reading test came, I was surprised. I saw the return reading traffic coming back thru
NIC "A" or LAN. NOT OPT1. As expected, this was slow, just as a 100 NIC would perform.

So, writing traffic into the server goes thru OPT!, and reading back traffic comes thru LAN.

I have found NO other settings to fix this, since I was assuming all traffic would be exclusively thru OPT1,
as the option appears to provide: "OPT only" (Interface selection).

I would think this is a bug and needs to be fixed.

Does anybody know what is going on?

Thanks
