fat32 format question

I try format usb drive ( also scsi target) as fat under nas4free.
And when I connect usbdrive to WinXP I see no space


When I format this flash under WinXP, I see OK on Nas4free


This is normal?

Would be interesting what is filling the drive when it is formatted under NAS4Free. Could be a try to seach for hidden files.
What happens when you format with NAS4Free, plug into your Windows PC and do an fsck? Does it fix any problems? When not there must be hiden files.

Generally I have had never any problems when I formatted FAT drives with FreeBSD machines, but never have done with FreeNAS/NAS4Free because I use theses drives only with my desktop system running Linux on it.

I partially begin understand how work FAT32
Nas4free before formatting make fdisk, but windows not understand code. Command

newfs_msdos /dev/da0

work as need for storage, no need fdisk before.
I attach first disk sectors, I see differences. In first - XP make hidden copy of Volume Boot Records in sector 6 and any code in sector 12.

Ugly and nasty windows not allow split into partitions USB flash May be add to nas4free format menu - format usb-flash
Hmmmm:
I build image and connect over iSCSI to PC.
Also i connect it into nas over mdconfig.
Image devide to 3 slices as md10s1, md10s2, md10s3. md10s1 - FAT16(from nas4free), md10s2 -FAT32(from nas4free), md10s3 - ntfs (from XP)
Fat16 - I have freespace, fat32 - I not have free space, disk full. ntfs - withowt problem.
But if I format FAT32 under XP - all work.

As far as I can remember you must format the partition, not the raw device

So on a device with MBR partition the format should run with newfs_msdos /dev/da0s1 or similar

But it is really long ago, just a hint from my mind...
