Rsync local to USB drive : Big Issue

Post by johann »

Hello,
I'm testing different software : FreeNas (8.2.0 and 8.3.0), Nas4free (9.1.0.1.323) and openmediavault. I cannot shutdown Freenas, everytime it reboots. Openmediavault is VERY difficult to install, I got errors. Once I succeed in installing it, but I got problems with USB drive.
Nas4free looks the best. I'v already set up :
  • Network sharing with CIFS
Rsync in local from a HDD to another HDD
    UPnp
    Transimission
    WOL
Everything works fine, except rsync from HDD to HDD, when it starts, I cannot refresh the webGUI, but it doesn't matter.

The big issue
I'm tying to configure rsync to copy files from a HDD in the NAS to a USB drive connected to the NAS. My USB drive is formatted in NTFS, because I need to read it with windows.
When Rsync starts, the NAS reboots and it cannot boots anymore because the xml configuration file is missing. So I have to install it again.
What is the problem? NTFS ? Rsync ?

Thank you !

Hi Alexey
I looked for in the forum but I didn't see this post.Thank you, I didn't know this.
I tried again openmediavault, and it looks more stable (Everything works except UPnP). I can copy to NTFS, so I may keep it, I'll see.

I've got 2 question more about Nas4free:
If I get again the same problem (ie : No boot because "xml configuration file missing"), is there a way to restore the system or do I have to install it again ?
When I use Rsync in local from UFS to UFS, the webGUI freezes. I've seen some post about this issue, but I haven't seen explanations either solutions. What can I do to fix it ?

Thank you.

When you configure nas4free - make backup config
I make backup for all conf folder and restore all folder when I boot from livecd/liveusb.

CPU and buses work on 100% when you do local rsynk.
Or rsynk, or webgui. :D

Thank you.

Hi,
Thank you again for your answer.
When you configure nas4free - make backup config

I did it, but when the system is down I have to:
1-Boot with live USB
2-Install on a CF
3-Reboot
4-Restore file (previously downloaded)
5-Reboot
I make backup for all conf folder and restore all folder when I boot from livecd/liveusb.
In System/Backup I use "Download configuration"
How do you make a backup of all your conf folder ?
CPU and buses work on 100% when you do local rsynk

I installed the system again this time I could refresh the GUI and the CPU rate was around 60%.

Thank you.
