Live cd problem

Post by adeuk »

Hi not sure if this is the right place, I'm trying to install nas4free from a live cd, the instructions I've read say it should be a 9 option menu but I'm only getting 6 options and after 3 or 4 seconds it reboots and loads to the same 6 option menu, any suggestions please?

that is the first option screen for BSD and defaults to load NAS4Free
here is what it should look like [except 9 options at the end]
[it is already loaded ]

if it is quitting after the first 6 options
there is likely hardware or software trouble

possible memory problem

if the box will boot a Linux live CD then it is likely a bad down load or disk
if it wont, I have had lots of trouble with worn optical drives
some NOS optical drives wont boot either

Hello,

I made the experience that following things fixed the problem with a reboot while startup:

- Check if you burned a 64bit ISO and use it to boot on a 32bit computer, this can not work.

- boot with the cd another computer to see if the cd is bad/ created with a damaged image, etc

- check RAM with memtest86+, that the system was running Windows is not a guarantee, unix like systems generally use all RAM.
Short story, a colleague has had a laptop at work that was rebooting for more than 3 years always at operation like internet surfing longer than 30 minutes. All other things worked without fail (Office and ERP). When I got this laptop fro the IT department Memest found damaged memory (at the end), so the user could do standard work at Windows2000 and when he has done anything which fills RAM it rebooted.

- when it reboots with option "Boot with ACPI enabled" tro to boot with optione ACPI Disabled
- when it reboots with option "Boot with ACPI disabled" tro to boot with optione ACPI Enabled

- disable all settings at the computer bios a NAS does not need, printer port, serial ports, soundcards, joystick ports, MIDI interface, floppy controller, etc.

This way I was able to boot FreeNAS/FreeBSD on all computer systems I have had in my hand, the only exception was a Shuttle SS21T, this machine was only able to rund Windows or Linux, absolute no chance to get BSD to boot on it..

Good luck
Shakky
