[SOLVED]Intel X553 NIC [built in Supermicro A2SDi] not working under 11.1.0.4.5565

Post by ivannn »

Hi Everyone,
I have a new Supermicro A2SDi-8C+-HLN4F (12 built in SATA ports, 64GB ECC RAM). Both the live CD and freshly installed embedded Nas4Free 11.1.0.4.5565 on a USB stick fail loading the built in Quad LAN with Intel® C3000 SoC 1GbE interfaces. FreeBSD 11 64 bit is officially supported and I tested FreeNAS-11.1-U4 – LAN is fully functional. I am using Nas4free long prior to changing name from Freenas and I do not want to switch to iXsystems’ thing now.

dmesg shows '(no driver attached)' against the interfaces

Does anyone has an idea how to get Intel X553 NIC working under Nas4Free?
cheers

im not 100% sure?
look at https://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?que ... &sektion=4
you you could try if_ixgb_load="YES" in System > Advanced > loader.conf

i think thats the correct driver?

the X553 NIC is not supported in FreeBSD 11.1-RELEASE ootb but FreeBSD 11.2 will be released shortly.
Please stay tuned or have a look at this thread: [HowTo] Install Nas4Free Embedded + EFI + Intel x553 driver

thanks for the suggestions - am going to wait for 11.2 release or will temporarily use a spare NIC. Meanwhile I would like to test if_ixgb_load="YES" works , can you advise how I can add to loader.conf via command line and sustain a reboot?

System > Advanced > loader.conf

Name: if_ixgb_load
Value: YES

thanks ms49434, but web gui is not accessible when NICs are not loaded... is there a way to update persistently loader.conf via the console and command line?

a quick update regarding using if_ixgb_load (in the previous version as well as current NAS4Free 11.1.0.4.5606):

* mounted the CF writable and edited config.xml, rebooted - NICs are not working
* plugged in an old Gigabit Intel NIC I had around and added via GUI (System > Advanced > loader.conf), rebooted - built in NICs are not working

I will keep using the pci express NIC until X533 support in FreeBSD 11.2 is available in N4F.
