Wish I Could!
I really want to be able to create multiple fixed sized mount points within a raid 5 disk set. Can this be done? I've read that I can use gpart to create partitions with the raid set, Ive also read that they can not be mounted. I want to do this to create fixed size mount points. While at the same time, have some protection from data loss. Currently I dont have a test system to attemp to try this, so if I can do this Id like to be somewhat sure its going to work as it involves a lot of me moving data around. Has anybody sucessfully done this. For future programmers, it would be awsome to have the ability to either set soft disk quotos, and or be able to mount multiple partitions within a single disk or set. I wont even pretend that I know what kind of programming that involves, but it would be great to have this usefull feature.

Re: Wish I Could!
Hello,
do not do this.
First of all, raid5 is declared as obselete, it is compared to raid1 mirrors and ZFS fragile and susceptible to faults.
So my personal recommendation is to use ZFS instead and realize the needed separation with ZFS folders.

Re: Wish I Could!
I agree with shakky4711 , use ZFS and folders , and use quotas to get a fixed sized shares.
12.1.0.4 - Ingva (revision 7743) on SUPERMICRO X8SIL-F 8GB of ECC RAM, 11x3TB disk in 1 vdev = Vpool = 32TB Raw size , so 29TB usable size (I Have other NAS as Backup)

Re: Wish I Could!
Ok thanks, I wasnt aware there were quota options with ZFS either. Just out of curiosity, what raid sets are the ZFS zraids compareable to?
I setup a test station, and I get the datasets, or at least I believe they are like mont points, but what are the volumes for?
