Hi
I'm using the same hardware since version 8 or something.
I want to upgrade to 12, but I can't boot the LiveUSB. I tried both the MBR and the GPT.
I tried in a USB 2 and a USB 3 port.
XH.. is disabled in the BIOS. There is no BIOS option to disable USB3 support.
Error when booting the installer: failed to load external entity "/conf/config.xml"
Motherboard: https://www.supermicro.com/products/mot ... -2758F.cfm

Re: failed to load external entity "/conf/config.xml"
Use the GPT for that motherboard which also supports UEFI BIOS, also try a different image burner such as Win32 Disk Imager , Rawrite32 , physdiskwrite 0.5.3 + PhysGUI if Windows, or if Linux Mint just right click the image and burn to target disk or simply use DD command.
Also use a quality branded USB stick for the installer and target media for best results with Embedded platforms, or a small 2.5" HDD(s)/SSD(s) for RootOnZFS platforms
Regards

Re: failed to load external entity "/conf/config.xml"
I tried booting both XigmaNAS-x64-LiveUSB-GPT-12.0.0.4.6625.img.gz as XigmaNAS-x64-LiveUSB-MBR-12.0.0.4.6625.img.gz. Used 2 USB-sticks and a portable SSD disk. I tried UEFI and non-UEFI on both.
I remember that I had the same problem when upgrading from 10 to 11. I forgot how I solved it then, but I think I just placed the disk in another computer to install it.
I used Etcher on macOS and the USB stick boots on my Mac. So it's something related to the SuperMicro board.
The CPU is an 8 core Atom processor C2758.

Re: failed to load external entity "/conf/config.xml"
+1
There are some HP's and select boards very picky on boot indeed, you could try using the LiveGPT-USB and try explicitly booting it on UEFI, alternatively you can install XigmaNAS/GPT on other device then plug the USB stick on target system as you said.
