Samba Share not working

Post by coatmaker618 »

Hi all, I suspect that I'm doing something dumb--but I can't figure out what it is

I have a new XigmaNAS install (v12.1.0.4) & I have a folder on a pool that I am trying to share via SMB/Samba. However, neither Linux nor Windows can see it :(

XigmaNAS Status > Services page shows a green check for both Enabled & Status on SMB--Which I am reading as "XigmaNAS is trying to share"

Windows says:
"Windows Cannot Access"

Linux says:
"Unable to find suitable address."

I am attempting to map via IP--the same IP that I am currently using to get to the web configurator!

I have tried swapping Samba protocols, but that makes no difference as far as I can tell. As I said, I'm guessing it's something stupid, but I've been banging my head on this for a while and would much appreciate the help. Thanks all :)

Just updating to say that I'm still stuck!! Guess this isn't a case of post & find the answer immediately after :(

Given that neither Linux nor Windows sees the share, I'm inclined to think it's XigmaNAS--but I don't see how it could be! I also looked at viewtopic.php?t=13391 & am sharing a folder I made within my dataset. I have tried sharing the whole dataset too... to no avail!

Any insight, or detailed instructions I can review, would be much appreciated! Thanks all :)

PS: Lemme know if there are any logs or other info that would be useful!

Thanks for the reply bjs, I had not come across that post.

I added "ntlm auth=yes" to the "Additional Parameters" under "Services > SMB > Settings". (Interestingly, that post says CIFS, not SMB--should I be looking at/for CIFS?). I applied settings & reloaded the service. Unfortunately, still unable to access the share.

I believe they are interchangeable names...

I got the feeling they were different at one point, but maybe they're close enough now?

At least that's one aspect that I don't have to worry about! I'm just looking for ANY differences at this point!

Still no luck overall :(

Updating with more info. Windows offered to troubleshoot and returned this:

The device or resource is not set up to accept connections on port "The File and printer sharing (SMB)".

So I take that to mean there is indeed a problem with my XigmaNAS configuration?

Thanks for the reply raulfg3, looks like a long read but I'll make my way through!

It seems the problem is related to me trying to do High Availability (HAST). I have made a separate post in that forum about this issue (was actually about to draft a post here explaining that), hopefully to get more focused attention from that set of eyes.

While I do not consider this solved (turning off HAST is not an acceptable solution without having some other alternative for High Availability and sharing) it at least gives me a direction to focus!

Follow-up post here in HAST forum, please address either if you have any insight!
