I just set up a Nas4Free server in Geom Raid5 w 6-3TB drives, following the information in the wiki (http://wiki.nas4free.org/doku.php?id=do ... user_guide). Thank you for the great documentation.
However, in reading other documentation, it seems like maybe I should have chosen a zfspool. If I'm going to switch to zfspool, then perhaps I should do that before I get too much data on it.
Any comments or suggestions MOST WELCOME! Thank you.

Re: Geom Raid5 vs ZFS
yes
be fore you get much data in the raid
which you will need to off-load
while making the change.
I use ZFS mirrors
no problems.

Re: Geom Raid5 vs ZFS
Raid5 is declared obsolete due RaidZ1 is the same whit more robutness and features ( deduplication, sparse, spare drives, etc...)
If possible to you please do some test to your actual Raid5 ( copy a large big iso file from and to NAS) and then destroy your raid5 ( backup first your valuable data), and do a RaidZ1 pool of 6 drives, then compare troughtput and valorate what is the best option for you.
keep in mind that troughput is not the only parameter, my ZFS raidz1 pool has survive 2 boards change and the only precaution that I can do is to export the poool previosly at the board change (but it's really not necesary).

12.1.0.4 - Ingva (revision 7743) on SUPERMICRO X8SIL-F 8GB of ECC RAM, 11x3TB disk in 1 vdev = Vpool = 32TB Raw size , so 29TB usable size (I Have other NAS as Backup)
