Am I Out of Luck

Post by Karl »

Hi All,

I have created zpool with Disk 1 and Disk 2. Then I increased the size of the pool by adding Disk 3. And finally increased the pool size again by adding Disk 4.

Disk 4 died yesterday. Neither my NAS server nor my PC will even recognize the presence of DISK 4 on boot up!

Is there anyway I can salvage whatever is left on the remaining 3 disks (i.e. Disk 1, 2, and 3)?

Can I recreate the pool with the remaining 3 disks to see what I can salvage?

My last backup was 2 months ago...and there are stuff on there that I want :-(

Thanks in advance for any ideas.
Karl

I suposse that you use ZFS but without redundancy , simply , adding disk to a existing pool.
this is very dangerous because you dont have any type of redundancy. and if you lose one disk , you lose ALL the pool ( all data in the pool).

At this moment I don't know any way to recover your data, perhaps others user can help you, but is really dificult to recover a not redunded pool.

PD: you are not unluck, you are a "inconsciente" -> I don't know if unaware is a correct traslate
12.1.0.4 - Ingva (revision 7743) on SUPERMICRO X8SIL-F 8GB of ECC RAM, 11x3TB disk in 1 vdev = Vpool = 32TB Raw size , so 29TB usable size (I Have other NAS as Backup)
