I will just post this here, if someone fells it fits better in other forum we move the message.
Currently I have a pool of 5 1.5 TB disks that use 512b sectors.
Is there ANY way to upgrade gradually to 4K disks without using compatibily mode on the disks? It would be really nice to have the performance advantage of 4k sectors.
This is the old XigmaNAS forum in read only mode,

Re: 4K Drives
Are you sure that use 512b sectors?, what command do you use to be sure?.
Upgrade gradually -> NO.
You need to recreate the pool from scratch, so you need a backup to destroy your pool and recreate it.
better performance? -> Not sure, you need to test because 4k is not necesary better that 512, (only for big *.avi or *.iso files), and perhaps 5 or 10% is not as great as you expected.

12.1.0.4 - Ingva (revision 7743) on SUPERMICRO X8SIL-F 8GB of ECC RAM, 11x3TB disk in 1 vdev = Vpool = 32TB Raw size , so 29TB usable size (I Have other NAS as Backup)

Re: 4K Drives
Yes, they are 512 drives. There were no 4k when I assembled this NAS.
I guess i'll stick to 512 for a while then.
Thanks!
