Online/Cloud backup solutions
Does anyone know of any sort of effort to write some package or scripts to automatically backup data from NAS4Free to services like Blackblase or Mozy?

Re: Online/Cloud backup solutions
I have also looked for this option. It seems that some of the commercial NAS boxes (QNap, Synology) can back up to at least one of the popular services. The need for having this on the NAS comes from limitations on backing up network drives. This means that the application needs to be installed on the server. This is also a point in favor of an actual file server.
Has anyone found a way around this without an add-in to NAS4Free?

Re: Online/Cloud backup solutions
I got Crashplan working on my nas4free install. It was a huge effort though. I had to download ports tar ball and copy a ton of stuff off of a freebsd 9 install disk to get it working....this literally took me about 6 hours of troubleshooting. Do a search for freebsd 9 crashplan...that will give you a good start
backblaze I believe is Windows and Mac only so I don't think it is an option.

Try this link for crashplan on BSD 9.
If you get it working, post your methods.
Another thought is to mount the drive as a system account and run crashplan from a client computer from this link.

I will try crashplan and see how it goes.
I really like blackblaze, have you guys seen their "petabytes on a budget" article? I think it has a lot to do with freenas/nas4free spirit.

Do not get a backblaze pod. I have one, performance sucks. It's built around sata multipliers instead of backplanes. Each group of 5 drives shares a single sata lane. You can build something around a supermicro case with proper backplanes for the same price.

Not exactly. I am not much aware of it. Anyhow, you can look into several other best cloud backup services to cater your backup storage needs. How about trying MyPCBackup?
