[SOLVED] Can I import a ZFS V15 ZPool into latest NAS4Free?

Post by raulfg3 »

xbmcg wrote:BTW, I have a zpool v15 from FreeNAS 8.0.3 - can I set up the latest NAS4Free and import the pool without data loss
and make a zpool upgrade to v28 or is it better to backup all data somewhere first, wipe the disks,
make a clean install and restore then the data?
you can import easyly , not need to backup ( but is a good idea to have a backup of your valuable data)

Do not upgrade to v28 ( is't done by hand not automatically) until you are totally sure that nas4free works for you. upgrade is one way , you cant revert to v15.
xbmcg wrote:I think, it would be feaseable to just import / upgrade since all zfs metadata is on the disks, so just change the boot sticks
and import the pools should do the trick I think...
yes.

please read similar post of other users in your same situation. if your pool is from FreeNAS 8 , probably you need to manually do the import procedure to define mount point, because FreeNAS 8 pool are not mounted in /mnt/ by default.

Yes, FreeNAS 8 does not set mount option. But you can set from WebGUI if you use NAS4Free 9.1.0.1.344 or later.
Of course, you must set it before starting any services on it.

No problem. We should update many documents and FAQ.
You can edit the mount point from Disks|ZFS|Pools|Management|Edit. (which is disabled before)
But the pool must be able to unmount/remount. (may export/import?)

Ok I see , so you need to do a first import , later edit the mount point from Disks|ZFS|Pools|Management|Edit , save and unmount / remount. (export / import)

now is clear , but if you don't tell is really difucult to deduce.

Thanks a lot.
