Procedure from 9.0 to 9.1

Post by pjdw »

Hi All
I have an embedded install and like to update to 9.1 (605).
My firmware update screen looks like this:
update nas.png
Looks like i can only update to latest 9.0 version via firmware update
Is it safe to download 9.1 and use this image?
Just to be safe because i have installed some additional packages for sabnzbd

NB I have access to my system with keyboard and possibility to run disks

Thanks for help in advance

Is safe , And I do not have notices of failling upgrades execept when energy power-down in the middle of the process, so I recomend that you use a UPS to avoid problems.

PD: It´s not posible to upgrade using *.img, you need to upgrade from *.ISO

Upgrade procedure is as simple as download latest 9.1 ISO, ( or live USB) burn on CD ( Or in USB in case of live USB), boot from this CD (or USB), and choose option to upgrade Nas4Free, N4F copy necesary files and maintain your installed packages.

PD2: Keep in mind that 9.1 is newer than 9.0 and some packages where updated (eg: PHP) so if some of your installed apps use this packages (eg: PHP), perhaps some of your apps do not works, and you need to reinstall.

To avoid this problems in future, from Forums recomened to install all aditional packages inside a jail, there are a lot of HOWTO install XXX inside a jail, and because jails are inside of your data disk, you do not lose anything in case of upgrade or boot disk corruption.
