Mystery Mainboard Install Day !

Post by Buhu »

Hi :)

I have switched from my D525/4GB/ SSD for Nas4free and Intel SASuc8i to AMD E350 Mainboard from MSI . The modell is in detail : MSI E350DM-E33(MS-7720) Bios: V1.5 11/01/2012

It was a grazy day with the mainboard and i have some questions about it ! This is what had happen......

Part 1) On the old D525 9.0.0.1 - Sandstorm (revision 249) was installed and running fine. Now with the new mainboard i want to switch to the last 9.1.573 Version of Freenas. But this was not possible. I was not able to install 9.1 because the SSD and a normal disk can't be installed with the mainboard. If the installation process want's to install ( part the disk ) the it stops with and error......... I was not able to install 9.1 on the mainboard, not with a SSD and not with a normal disk drive!!!!! In the Bios i have changed between ahci and normal ide for sata mode, nothing helps !

Part 2) The installation with the old N4F Rev 249 was able on the new mainboard, but the funny think is, that i have to connect the ssd for os on port 5 on the mainboard that N4F do find them as ada0 !!!! The is absolutly funny and grazy and i do not know why !

Part 3 ) The next funny thing i have is, that 2 drives from my 4 Samsung HD204UI will only use 150Mbit instead of 300 ......So, what is that ?

Does anyone has a solution for all the problems or can tell me why this happens ? I have attached the log to see what i mean !

THX !

changing lots of stuff at once is an invitation to epoch failure

I have changed MOBOs successfully
FreeNAS and NAS4Free seem to do this well

Do to my less then stellar experience with desktop OS upgrades
I would rather build a new NAS and transfer data.

and I would never try the first with out an extra copy of the data

if luck is on your side you may be able to re do the original configuration to salvage the data

others may have other suggestions but if salvaging the data is NOT important
a through wipe of partitions from the drive can help a new build
lingering MBR or other metadata produces odd results if not thoroughly wiped

Good morning !

To have a clear statement, i never did a restore of the configuration on the new Mainboard ! I tried to do a fresh install and this will fail with 9.1.xxxxx. I think thas has something to do with the Sata Slots and Bios from mainboard, but never have find a point where i can have a look for.
