Hay Guys,
I want to be able to Create a Hidden share and also make each users Home Directory hidden.
At the moment i have a share that is called "Data" and when i go on my Mac or my PC you can see the server called "NAS" and then when you click on this you can see the folder/share called Data. Once you open this you can see every Users Home Directory, for e.g. Dan and Arthur, and some files named Videos, Photos, Music. (I want to keep these visible as everyone should have access to them.)
How can i make it so that when a user clicks on the "NAS" they can only see Videos, Photos, Music? This way i can Map there home directory and then Map the "NAS" as a separate share?
hope this makes sense,
Regards,
Dan

Re: Creating Hidden Shares
There is a setting when you set the shares up
Services|CIFS/SMB|Shares - Untick Browseable box
Browseable: When enabled this share will be seen in the available list of shares in a net view and in a browse list. If disabled, the share will only be available by explicitly typing the full server path in Windows Explorer or similar file manager.

Re: Creating Hidden Shares
Thanks,
I will have a look at this tonight,
Also are you able to put a $ at the end of the share or a folder to make it hidden? just thought you might be able to the same as Windows.
Cheers,

Re: Creating Hidden Shares
Using a $ will technically not make anything hidden like dodger stated; however, when browsing from Windows Explorer, the share will not be displayed.
