Upgrading 9.1.0.1 FULL to latest version

Post by UncleMonty »

Guys,
I'm running 9.1.0.1 Sandstorm build 394 full version from a 2gb memory stick and all is currently working well. I have also installed minidlna on top of the standard install which is working well too. I would like to keep up to date with the latest Nas4Free versions as they are released. Previously I used to run embedded and it was a simple case of installing the new embedded version onto a different memory stick and giving it a go. However, with the Full version this is more hassle as I would then have to install minidlna and I'm looking at installing MySQL and possibly other packages in the future, so starting with a fresh memory stick every major release would quickly become tiresome.

I have the following questions:

1. One of my main reasons for upgrading to the new version is that the notes say that the web interface has been rewritten with JQuery. I'm assuming that this means the menus will now work with an Apple iPad (it never used to). Is this correct?

2. If I want to upgrade is there a path whereby I can install the software over the top of my existing installation thus keeping minidlna and MySQL or do I have to install a new version of the Full installation every time?

Thanks so much for all your help and advice on this guys. I really appreciate it.

YES, Use jails to install minidlna & SQL in your Data disk, so you can use embeded or Full and you can Update or upgrade without problem.

Jails? I've read a little about them. Seems interesting. I'll look into it. Many thanks.

[EDIT] - Is this wiki still accurate? If so I'll use it as my guide...
