Hello there,
I've installed the newest NAS4Free this weekend, and I love it.
There were several problems, but I've managed to fix them with my knowledge or by this forum.
But I haven't found an answer to this question...
I've got a Windows 2k3 server, and is cannot read the CIFS share at NAS4Free faster then 2mb/s. Write is good, read from other source is good, only read from NAS4Free is slow. I've tried NT1 and SMB2 options as well, none of them helped.
Have somebody met this problem before?
This is the old XigmaNAS forum in read only mode,

How fast is reading on a winxp or win7 box from the NAS?
What is your hardware? Checked right DNS server on the NAS? Is GBit activated?

On a Win7, I can read from the NAS around 60-70mb/s, so the problem is not with the hardware or the network.
I don't know what you mean by "checked right dns server on the nas".

You give a device in a network always an IP, a subnet mask, a gateway and a DNS. this i do mean. is everything right with this?

There is an IPv4 address as well as the subnet mask. Without it, i couldn't configure the NAS4free, and I wouldn't able to read / write anything. Gateway and DNS is also configured of course, but currently it don't affect anything at all (no service is configured which would use it).
The problem with the CIFS parameters somehow, not with the general install or network configuration.

Ok then....maybe there's a bad config on the 2k3 server, I suggest.
Can you try to install a blank 2k3 on another old pc/server just to check? Or download something from your win7 pc to the 2k3.
Btw. I've seen some very rare cases on switches, when one of the switchports was broken. It still worked, but was terribly slow.
