All the steps work, but when I got to the part that I have to access the nas server through Windows Explorer (now File Explorer), the server doesnt shows up. Dont know what the problem might be, but I read on other posts on this subforum, that maybe the problem could be with windows 8, but dont know how to resolve it, please help me!

Re: NAS server not showing up in File Explorer of Windows 8
The last answer of that post, says that by creating a local account with same credentials as the one on Nas4free, it would work, but thats not my case. I created the local account with same user name and password, but the nas4free server still doesnt show up on file explorer

Re: NAS server not showing up in File Explorer of Windows 8
Hi Nas_py_lord,
I'm sorry you are still having a problem, but as you can see it should work just fine. If there are any problems they will usually be related to Windows 8 or network settings outside NAS4Free. In your case the problem could be related to your VM settings.
Regards,
Al

Re: NAS server not showing up in File Explorer of Windows 8
Please write an apropiate gateway and DNS to work fine with windows.First it will ask us if we want to use DHCP. My answer is no. On the next screen, I’ll assign my NAS box with a static IP address of 192.168.1.240. You obviously should use an IP address that sits in the range of your own home network IP address range. In the subnet screen, I’ll stick with the default of a /24 notation. For the gateway address, I will leave it blank because my NAS box does not need any outside access to the Internet. Usually your gateway address is the IP address of your home router.

Re: NAS server not showing up in File Explorer of Windows 8
It was the gateway the problem. I put on it the the IP adress of the virtual ethernet adapter and it worked. I noticed also that the server start takes longer, during start the virtual ethernet adapter IP waits for ICMP, then it starts normally.raulfg3 wrote:Please write an apropiate gateway and DNS to work fine with windows.First it will ask us if we want to use DHCP. Re: NAS server not showing up in File Explorer of Windows 8
Hi Nas_py_lord,
Based on this topic & others I've noticed a pattern of improper gateway configuration.
I have reviewed the appropriate sections of the Setup and User Guide and found mention of the gateway was either removed at some time or perhaps omitted during the initial writing. I have added language and warnings regarding the configuration of this setting and hope people will have less of a problem with it in the future.
I have adjusted the title and moved this topic the proper area.
Regards,
Al
