D-Link DUB-E100

Post by rostreich »

Hey guys.

Maybe it's interesting for some of you, who might need an USB 2.0 Fast Ethernet Adapter which works on N4F.

Especially those of you who have only 1 NIC onboard and only 1 PCI Slot, which could be better used for a disk controller.

So...the DUB-E100 works like a charme.

Iperf gave me 95,1Mbps from 100. :D

Looks like that appraisal applies only to original or rev B1 of DUB-E100. C1 or current D1 seem to be unrecognizable, these appear only as USB devices without any NIC features - no driver assigned as these are not recognised.

I hope I am wrong with this, I hope someone could prove otherwise.

Needed a workaround for HP N40L box with lightning-blown nic while waiting for replacement mobo - and Intel NIC - but none of readily available USB-WLAN sticks (lots of them) nor this DUB-thing (purchased for this purpose) did get me back on-line.

the n40l has 2 pcie slots

one of them is a pcie 1x slot which can be used for a different network card. (like an intel one)
this is a much better solution.

with usb you will be limited to fast ethernet speed which i think is pointless for hardware that can do gig ethernet speed.
Nas4Free 11.1.0.4.4517. Supermicro X10SLL-F, 16gb ECC, i3 4130, IBM M1015 with IT firmware. 4x 3tb WD Red, 4x 2TB Samsung F4, both GEOM AES 256 encrypted.

This USB NIC would have been a workaround, incident took place on Friday-Saturday night and immediately ordered EXPI9301CT will arrive on Wednesday earliest, retailers tend not keep this sort of hardware on stock but rely on dealers. Tried only to get my file server somehow online, slow speed is not an issue. Ordered surge protectors too...
