I'm not sure when this began, but the NAS started to refuse to join my AD until I added
realm = mydomainname.com
to the [global] section of smb.conf. I'm not sure if this is a function of my particular AD, but it seems like it might be good to add this to the AD configuration screen.
This is the old XigmaNAS forum in read only mode,
it will taken offline by the end of march 2021!
I like to aks Users and Admins to rewrite/take over important post from here into the new fresh main forum!
Its not possible for us to export from here and import it to the main forum!

Re: AD settings required in smb.conf
Another question: The password entered in the AD section of the GUI is stored via cleartext in config.xml- this is poor practice; is there a way to prevent this behavior?

Its not necessary, when you give the full dc name: server1.intranet.local etc
