Hi All. First post.
I have version 9.1.0.1 of Nas4Free running on my HP Proliant N40L Micro server. The server contains 4x Seagate 3TB hard drives, and the OS is running from an embedded installation on a USB pen (installed using the live CD method). The server is setup using the standard software raid.
I've had the server for roughly a month, and for most of that time, it has never been in a state where it's ran as i expect.
To begin with, when i was copying all my data to it, the server kept re-booting during the file copy. I eventually got all my data on to it somehow, and it ok for a few weeks, however, when i'm adding new data to the NAS, the server is re-booting again.
There seems to little in the way of logic to this issue at the moment. I have 2 main shares setup named "Films" and "TV Episodes". In the past 48 hours, when i try to copy any files to the Films share (files which are roughly 700MB in size), the server will re-boot roughly 5 minutes into the copy.
Unless i'm missing somegthing, there isnt much in the logs to tell me what could be the issue.
At one point, i thought one of my drives could be the issue. One of the drives was reported as "missing" a couple of weeks ago, however, after turning the server off, pulling the drive out and putting it back in again, the drive showed up and worked fine again.
The file copy issue got even worse yesterday. The server did it's usual re-boot when i attempted a file copy, but it didnt come back on. I connected a monitor to it, and the text on the screen claimed that a "file system is full" (i aren't sure which file system). Funnily enough, when i removed the drive which was once reported as "missing", the server booted up fine (but no data was available)
I've since done a fresh installation of Nas4Free on a different USB pen, and when i plug in all 4 drives, the server boots fine. I've setup my shares again, but when i try and copy files over, the server is once again re-booting.
Any ideas?

Re: Re-booting during file copy
the 3 Tb drives do not seem happy in all hardware environments
there was another thread here not long ago
I quote from that thread about uncorrected errors
"3TB drives are still a novelty and the Seagates are a pain because they don't play nice with SMART. These are two drives of the same model and they both seem to be failing the same way. Let us assume for the moment they are both not defective."

Re: Re-booting during file copy
Which version of n4f do you have?
How did you setup shares? NFS? Samba?
If samba then post a screen of your settings.

Re: Re-booting during file copy
I had the same issue regarding a crash/reboot during a copy and attempting to view another file. This happened whilst the Raid array was being built. I let it recover (6 hours) and all was fine, except for the non-recovered files.
I looked around the forums with no luck and tried it again with the same setup, without any issues occurring.
I think the issue occurred as a result of building the Raid array and attempting to copy large files and interacting with other files.
This was copying/interacting to CIFS/SAMBA to Windows 7 on a Gigabit ethernet in the same switch.
