Restrict maximum storage user

Post by cloudy »

Hi,

Is there a way to restrict a user to a maximum amount of storage. So NAS4Free has 500Gb but i want to restrict this user to only 10Gb?

Thanks in advance,
Cloudy

You should provide more info about your system, because it depends of your configuration.
AFAIK, if you are using ZFS, you can create a dataset. You can assign this dataset to the user. Dataset have an option for quota when creating them.
You can check it out since I am not 100% sure (I don't use datasets)

EDIT: Just confirmed. Created a dataset "user1dataset" with 1GB quota, then created a user "user1" with the dataset as his home directory. finally created a share using dataset "user1dataset"
After mapping the share, the space it shows is 1GB. And if later you want to increase quota, you simply edit the space from Disks|ZFS|Datasets|Dataset|Edit

Depending upon the size of storage material you should decide the storage unit size.
