Hi,
I'm completely new to BSD and NAS4Free. I just took my first steps ans installed N4F on my old Acer H340 Homeserver.
Here are the specs:
Acer Easystore H340, 2 GB RAM, 256 MB onboard Flash
4x 2 TB HDDs (2x Samsung HD203WI, 2x WDC WD20EARS)
OS: Nas4Free 9.1.0.1 - Sandstorm (revision 636), x64-embedded on Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU 230 @ 1.60GHz
I set up the following RAID/Configuration:
-Set all disks to softraid, format
-Create RAID5 using all 4 disks
-format RAID5 with UFS (GPT and Soft Updated)
-Create mount point
-Enable SMB, create 1 share
-Enable Rsync server, create 1 module
The RAID is still in REBUILDING mode. But I guess I should still be able to use it.
My problem:
Copying data via SMB works fine. No problems at all so far.
But Rsync seems to be a problem. I use a Synology Diskstation as an Rsync client, that connects to the N4F Rsync server and starts tranferring data. I can see the incoming data via SMB and everything seems to be fine.
But always after about 1 GB of transferred data the whole N4F systems reboots itself.
So my question is: Should I try the x86 firmware, since I only have 2 GB of RAM and don't intend to upgrade? Or what else can I do to find out what causes the problem?
Since there's no data on the N4F system so far, I can easily check different RAID configs if that helps. Might it be a problem for Rsync that the RAID is still rebuilding?
Thank you very much in advance.
BTW: Apart from the Rsync problem I really like N4F, especially because the embedded version fits nicely into the onboard flash storage.

Re: Backup via Rsync leads to reboots
Ok,
I just tested the following setup:
Formatted a single disk with UFS and used it for Rsync. The problem seems to be gone.
So somehow my problem must be caused by the RAID5 and/or the REBUILDING status in combination with Rsync.
I guess I will create the RAID5 again and wait till it's completely finished and check again.

Re: Backup via Rsync leads to reboots
Ok, just to report back...
The problem is solved. After letting the RAID REBUILDING reach its COMPLETE status there are no more reboots.
But in theory: should't I be able to start using the RAID even if it's still rebuilding?
