Rsync rather slow...

Post by Jtcdesigns »

I have 2 nas4Free boxes with identical build 9.1.0.1 - Sandstorm (revision 573)

the client is setup as so..

Recurse into directories.
Preserve modification times.
Archive mode.
Delete files on the receiving side that don't exist on sender.
Delete algorithm mode: After
Suppress non-error messages.
Preserve permissions
Preserve extended attributes
Reverse direction

At the very most im only hitting an average of 40MB/s - 60MB/s. And this is rather slow and was hoping to be in the 100's.

Main server setup as the rsync client has a 2 disk stripe and the second server is the backup with rsync server and a 3 drive stripe... both totaling the same disk space of 6TB.

Both also have 3 gigabit nic cards connected to the same switch configured for link aggregation. So each server has a 3 gigabit link.. and yet my speeds are this slow..

I know my hard drives won't put out 3 gigabit speeds... but I know the single drives should be putting out close to 80 or 90MB/s by themselves and they aren't green drives.. they are regular 7200 rpm seagates.

I'm tracking my traffic through Status | Graph | Traffic graph

Anyone else running into slow transfers as well? I do wonder if there is something other than rsync that may be causing this but I can copy from a few computers and see the graph go up to 78MB/s
