Atheros 8151
freebsd says this nic is support from 8.2 using the alc(4) driver. I was looking to get a budget motherboard for a nas that uses this chispet and just wondered if anyone can confirm that the latest nas4free (freebsd 9?) will defo support this chip/board. the offending board will be a GA-H61M-S2PV rev.2 and the sata chip is iTE IT8728 chip, but i plan to use zfs

Re: Atheros 8151
I don't find it on:
http://wiki.nas4free.org/doku.php?id=na ... s_hardware
or
http://www.freebsd.org/releases/9.0R/hardware.html
but it doesn't mean that is not suported, only mean that I don't find.
Perhaps you must wait that others user comfirm or not if supported.
in the middle you can see other boards that other users uses:
viewforum.php?f=63
or
http://sourceforge.net/apps/phpbb/freen ... m.php?f=93

Re: Atheros 8151
it is just weird. freebsd 8.2 says it has this driver alc(4) but freebsd 9 says it has this one ale(4) which is older. but the man page is for freebsd 9

+o Atheros AR8113 PCI Express Fast Ethernet controller
+o Atheros AR8114 PCI Express Fast Ethernet controller
+o Atheros AR8121 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller
So the correct driver is Alc(4) and , yes It's supported, but check rev of chip ( only support rev 1 & 2)
+o Atheros AR8151 v1.0 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller
+o Atheros AR8151 v2.0 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller

Re: Atheros 8151
ok so i got the board, put in a usb flash drive with an embedded install i used on the last motherboard, changed the interface via console to alc(0) and it worked fine. Reached the web interface instantly. i have not tested it with the hard drives yet but so far it seems this board and the net chipset work fine with current version of nas4free
