Strange- All 9.1.x.x Versions can't be installed on E350!

Post by Buhu »

Hi.

I'm currently running the old 9.0.x.x, please have a look in my signatur ! I do not have any problem running Versions 9.0.x.x :)

I have a very strange problem with all versions of 9.1.x.x on my AMD E350 Board. I'm not able to run any of the new versions 9.1.x.x I have tried the following things without success :

- upgrade via webinterface from Latest Release: NAS4Free-x64-embedded-9.0.0.1.249.img to (all versions before too ) Latest Beta Build: NAS4Free-x64-embedded-9.1.0.1.698.img - no function !
- do a fresh install with live cd x64 - no function ! ( Screenshot )
- do a upgrade with the live cd - no version found - no function ! (Screenshot)

I have attached the files i thought they will help....

Thanks !
Christian

Please enter in your BIOS and change boot order so OCZ-ONYX 1.7 become ada0. (Actually is ada1 so it's not your first disk to boot for).

PD: If you use a SSD to boot N4F you can use Full install instead embeded that is designed for USB keys.
12.1.0.4 - Ingva (revision 7743) on SUPERMICRO X8SIL-F 8GB of ECC RAM, 11x3TB disk in 1 vdev = Vpool = 32TB Raw size , so 29TB usable size (I Have other NAS as Backup)

true a SSD is designed for OS use and they are fast, as the SATA connection
inside most MOBOs there is no greater speed [bandwidth] than that between the CPU and RAM
and the embedded allows many choices of OS and config file storage.
[CD/floppy or USB, USB flash, small HDD spin down after 5 min, PATA or SATA flash modules]
with lots of memory [or even not so much] I like the embedded OS
it is very easy to rebuild if the storage medium fails.

I know, but it makes no difference, the nas is booting correct with 9.0.x.x ,ssd is first boot device in bios. It is ada1 because it is connected to port 2 on the pcie sata controller! Connecting drive to the internal port 1 on the mobo or pcie controller does not change or fix the problem with 9.1.x.x !!

Sure, but updating the embedded does result in much more fun and options with N4F ;) But all are not the major points, i look for a way to find out why i can't use 9.1.x.x. To buy a new board is not an option for me at the moment..... :(

Thanks

well , perhaps you are right, but can you please test it.???

I never suggest to buy a new motherboard, sorry if you understand this.

I have tested with the OCZ SSD and Samsung 500GB with this results, always a fresh install :

- SSD on Port1 PCIe Controller > no success - see screenshots. Partition can't be created !!
- SSD on Port1 on the mobo > see above !
- Samsung hdd on Port1 PCIe Controller > see above !
- Samsung hdd on Port1 on the mobo > see above !

It will be always the same result with all 9.1.x.x Versions !

MOTHER BOARDS MAY NOT ALWAYS BOOT FROM DRIVE CONTROLLER EXPANSION CARDS
This has been my experience with old dell hardware ONLY primary IDE, Floppy, or NIC chip
Nothing else works

for two of these problematic boxes I have used small HDDs installed and set to spin down in 5 minutes
they both boot flawlessly

if you believe that it should boot from a specific port because an early version did
I ask what else has changed and will the storage medium boot on other computers
possible bad down load?

I have got Biostar A68I-350 Deluxe and never have had a problem with NAS4Free, with FreeNAS it is a whole different story though!
I would however check your BIOS settings especially BBS...

....really absolut no change in the hardware !

I have already tested more than one version of 9.1.x.x ! My assumption is that the AHCI 1.1 version from the hudson is the problem on the board. I have changed all options for testing in bios some weeks ago, nothing helps with 9.1.x.x so i was going back to 9.0.0.1 (249) !

It's crazy with that board !

Any BIOS updates for the board have been released, you can try?
Also I would try changing AHCI to IDE, just to see if it boots...

If you can see in my first post ( attached files) the bios is the last version. I have also changed all possible option in the bios for Sata etc..... no chance at the moment.

I've given up with the Mobo before i will running crazy...

What i have done............. look in the files if you want !

There was no way to get 9.1.0.1 running with a disk or SSD, not connected on the mobo port1 also not on the addon card port1 ! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH

I have now removed the SSD and the addon card and installed an USB KEY 8GB, connected all drives to mobo and still wondering..... but i will not investigate the new issues ;)
Please have a look into the files, it shows you that all drives are well and correct connected. the mismatch is that the drives are still mixed into Nas4free.... i do not know why !
The ZFS drives are connected on port1 to port3 on the mobo ( like in the screenshots), the WDRED 3 TB is connected on port4 and finally the las 2TB drive for backup is connected to port5, all on the mobo. but they are still mixed and with different speed!!

I will not trying to find out why, but my assumption is that an error on the mainboard/bios is much more higher as an error in the driver implementation, or do you think Freebsd/Nas4free is "misconfigured internal" with the drivers !?

I will now look forward with my nas, also i will have much more fun with the installed intel card tooooooo : - )

If someone can tell me why the situation with the nas is like it is.... so feel free to post some lines, i wlll be happy with it :)

Best regards
Christian
