Upgrade from 0.72_8191

Post by capitainekurck »

Hi all

I got an issue tying to upgrade my freenas to nas4free.
I got 2 WD 2to in soft raid 0 and 1 lsi megaraid with 3 hd in raid 5.
the hard raid is correctly imported but the soft raid not.
manualy is the same. if i add them with soft raid formated i can't recreate my raid and access to the data.
is there something else to do

I moved my System from Raid to zfs before I moved from FreeNAS to NAS4Free
my NAS and its development until today: viewtopic.php?f=63&t=39&sid=039fed830cf ... 4d0abe4a04

thank for you replie but i think it a little more complicated.
well in fact my nas is a VM on ESXI 5 and all HD are pass to nas4free as RDM. the 2 WD 2 To and the hard raid 5 (through a lsi megaraid) 3x 1To so 2 To too.

the hard raid is seen correctly i can import it in the gui i have
da3 1905440MB LSI MegaRAID 8308ELP 1.12 LSI MegaRAID 8308ELP 1.12 00fc2b59c6290000ffa0f82c00b00506 Always on UFS Modifying

for the others 2 To WD hd i can add manualy or import them but the soft raid is not detected . and there a seen a 0 size.
(add manuali with force soft raid )
da1 0MB membre1 WDC WD20EARX-008FB0 WD-WCAZAF467160 Always on SoftRaid ONLINE
da2 0MB membre2 WDC WD20EARS-00S8B1 WD-WCAVY2941606 Always on SoftRaid ONLINE

i can t mount the raid and in the log i got
Jun 11 18:33:46 nas4free kernel: (da1:mpt0:0:1:0): unsupportable block size 0
Jun 11 18:36:21 nas4free kernel: (da1:mpt0:0:1:0): unsupportable block size 0
Jun 11 18:36:21 nas4free kernel: (da2:mpt0:0:2:0): unsupportable block size 0
Jun 11 18:36:22 nas4free kernel: (da1:mpt0:0:1:0): unsupportable block size 0
Jun 11 18:36:22 nas4free kernel: (da2:mpt0:0:2:0): unsupportable block size 0
Jun 11 18:36:23 nas4free kernel: (da2:mpt0:0:2:0): unsupportable block size 0
Jun 11 18:36:23 nas4free kernel: (da1:mpt0:0:1:0): unsupportable block size 0
Jun 11 20:35:36 nas4free kernel: (da1:mpt0:0:1:0): unsupportable block size 0
Jun 11 20:35:36 nas4free kernel: (da2:mpt0:0:2:0): unsupportable block size 0
Jun 11 20:35:36 nas4free kernel: (da1:mpt0:0:1:0): unsupportable block size 0
Jun 11 20:35:36 nas4free kernel: (da2:mpt0:0:2:0): unsupportable block size 0
Jun 11 20:35:39 nas4free kernel: (da1:mpt0:0:1:0): unsupportable block size 0
Jun 11 20:35:39 nas4free kernel: (da2:mpt0:0:2:0): unsupportable block size 0

the 3 RDMs are created in the same way and all run fine on freenas 7.2.8091. the only difference (i think) is the sata card. one is a LSI Megarair the other is a SIL 3124

search forum for unsupportable block size 0 I remember other user with same problem related of how disk are passed to VM.
12.1.0.4 - Ingva (revision 7743) on SUPERMICRO X8SIL-F 8GB of ECC RAM, 11x3TB disk in 1 vdev = Vpool = 32TB Raw size , so 29TB usable size (I Have other NAS as Backup)

thanks for reply.
i already see this post viewtopic.php?f=16&t=1020&hilit=unsuppo ... ock+size+0

but it seem that the problem is not resolve. i think it a problem with nas4free (prehaps drivers)
it work fine with 0.72.8191. i got 2 VM 1 in freenas the other with nas4free with the same config. it work with freenas and not with nas4free.

the strange thing is that my lsi megaraid rdm is seen and import correctly on nas4free and the same rdm on my sil 3124 are not import and seen a 0Mb size

if you create raw disk using -z you may expenrience problems, you need to create disk using -r instead: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=1020&hilit=unsuppo ... ze+0#p5134

solved: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=1020&hilit=unsuppo ... ze+0#p6526

yest i see this topic too but it a workaround. doing that you create a virtual RDM and we loose acces to SMART data and we got some restriction that we don't have with non virtual RDM
in fact all the 3 RDMs are created with the same command using -z and it work well for one of my rdm and not with the 2 others
theres 2 others are correctly seen on freenas or XP .....
so i think that the problem is on nas4free. it will be nice if it can be fix. i think a lot of people use N4F on VM

hi
i ty the new version it the same issue . still got
Jun 14 20:35:39 nas4free kernel: (da1:mpt0:0:1:0): unsupportable block size 0
Jun 14 20:35:39 nas4free kernel: (da2:mpt0:0:2:0): unsupportable block size 0
the 2 western digital HD are seen but 0kb size and mi hard raid drive (lsi megaraid) no problem

i m ready do give all info to fix this problem if it possible and if some one want to try to fix it as it seem i not the only one to have it and it seem that freenas or nas4free is often use on VM
