Headless Install / Upgrade ???

Post by madgabz »

Hi all,
Search function on this forum is second to non-working, so I'm truly sorry if I am asking a question already answered here!

My nas4free FULL amd64 install has been installed while having a powerhungry and noisy gfx-card installed, which i took out once install was done!
How can I Upgrade my nas4free system, while running headless? I cba opening, inserting gfxcard, relocate to monitor, reboot, update, dismantle gfx, relocate.

Is this possible at all? AFAIK, only embedded nas4free updates through webGUI, right?

I don't mind doing some console/SSH jockeying, thats the fun part :D

cheers,
Gabriel Hansen

I think a used or inexpensive [or even noisy fan] video card is a better idea
while it can be done blind, the chance of a problem is way more
as it turns out all of mine have an on-board video

but even if they did not I would value my data more than an inexpensive video card
I'll let others who have done it explain it

for headless system, embeded is recommended because can be easyly upgraded by WebGUI.

If you have full install, you need a keyboard and a monitor to upgrade.

PD: if you atach this time a keyboard and a monitor, you can see a option to upgrada & convert to embeded your actual install, so only need to work one more time.
12.1.0.4 - Ingva (revision 7743) on SUPERMICRO X8SIL-F 8GB of ECC RAM, 11x3TB disk in 1 vdev = Vpool = 32TB Raw size , so 29TB usable size (I Have other NAS as Backup)

WEll, thank you, but I DO know how the install works regularly, :D
I installed the Full system so as not to be retricted to limited system filespace etc...
Oh, well.... What i was looking for was a way to download the IMG-file, mount it on nas4free, then upgrade existing system from that system-image... like, using a simple script, or something...
What exactly is the upgrade-script in the embedded version doing?

TIA,
Gabriel

nohup /etc/rc.firmware upgrade imagefile.img
or fullupgrade
