System | Firmware Page really slow

Post by cancerman »

I just upgraded an embedded x64 install from 636(I think) to 761 then to 775. Each time, clicking on the Firmware link took a few minutes before the page was displayed, then another few minutes after clicking Enable Firmware Upload until I could browse to a file. Updating went fine after that, but twice I walked away while waiting and my login timed out. Is this common, or just me? I can see someone less experienced or less patient thinking it is broken.

never find firmware page slower than any other page.
whenever u call firmware page it checks if u got new n4f version. maybe because of internet failure it makes it so slow.
u can disable it in system, advanced. hope it helps.

I agree that it is probably timing out checking to see if your firmware is current.

Bang, that did it. Wonder why it started? Nothing on my network changed. Any chance something changed with how it checks the site?

Either a server interruption, or a DNS issue. Either way, it has to time out before continuing.

This happens quite often when SF experiences problems (fairly regualr these days). You can disbale the firmware check under System|Advanced -> Firmware version check. and that will speed it up at those times.
