Hello
I have the following system
Gigabyte GA-A55-DS3P 6* SATA2 with 16GB RAM
Altogether I have 10 WD20EARS drives.
Five of them are connected to the MB grouped in one RAIDZ1 pool and working like a charm.
Of the remaining five one is connected to 6th port on the MB and the rest to SiI 3114 with 4 SATA ports. This card was constantly reporting errors.
To replace it I bought Leaf Adapter LCS3X4EN Rev 2.0 4*SATA3 based on Marvell 88SE92xx chip.
At first I got it recognize the disks but I got some errors reported which I did not write down. It was something like "unexpected 0xffff".
Now I only get first six drives reported which are connected to the motherboard.
So my question is if this card is supported by FreeBSD at all? It is not mentioned in the hardware compatibility list.
When I bought the card it was advertized as supported but on the combo driver CD there was actually nothing for this card or chipset.
Is there some configuration to tweak?
I know that this will be unpopular around here but I openly submit that I am not very fluent with Unixoid systems.
Regards
Juraj

SiI 3114 have a long bad relationship with BSD.
Do yu apply WDidle to avoid premature destruction of Disk?. https://www.google.es/search?q=WD20EARS+WDidleJura wrote:10 WD20EARS
not sure, I need more time to google a bit.Jura wrote:So my question is if this card is supported by FreeBSD

Re: Marvell 88SE92xx 4 port SATA Adapter
raulfg3 , thank you for your help.
If I read it correctly, there is a chance.
Also, I have found my error messages that I didn't write down.
(aprobe1:ahcich6:0:0:0): Unexpected signature 0xffff
(aprobe1:ahcich7:0:0:0): Unexpected signature 0xffff
(aprobe1:ahcich8:0:0:0): Unexpected signature 0xffff
(aprobe1:ahcich9:0:0:0): Unexpected signature 0xffff
Now, I'll study how to rebuild the kernel and I'll get back to you with report.
One quick question: will this rebuilding of kernel work with my installation because it is embeded or should I switch to complete?
Regards

not sure, I'm a normal user, I never rebuild a kernel so no experience here.Jura wrote:Now, I'll study how to rebuild the kernel and I'll get back to you with report.

This is a post of same situation, but for a NIC driver, not a Controller , but user need to compile a new driver to use:

Re: Marvell 88SE92xx 4 port SATA Adapter
Rebuilding the kernel is not trivial. And getting it in an image if your are running embedded is even less so. You can get supported cards for $20, so why bother? Are you in the US? Here is a 2 port that works out of the box. SATA 3 as well.
