zf_read: fill error

Post by RobertoBenzi »

Good morning, today booting my NAS I ran into this problem, while booting the NAS gives me the above error, and is not able to boot.

It's an embendedd installation on a USB flash drive, with 2 500GB RAID 0 UFS disks and 3 spared UFS disks (one SATA, 2 IDE)

the error I get is the following

Code: Select all

loading required module 'opensolaris'
/boot/kernel/opensolaris.ko text=0x163c data=0x1c0+0xdc0 syms=[0x4+0x860+0x4+0x8b9]
zf_read: fill error
can't open 'boot/menu.4th': input/output error

Hit [Enter] to boot immediately, or any other key for command prompt.

Type '?' for a list of commands, 'help' for more detailed help.
How to I fix it?
and keeping in mind that I don't have a backup, how do I backup the files I had on the drive? mostly the RAID ones, is there a way to access them and copy them?

Hello Roberto
it seems something wrong with your usb drive. So first you need a new usb flash drive. If u got one install nas4free. Boot and import disks. It must work.

Okkay, perfect!
Is there a chance for it to work formatting the drive or I need a new one?

How do i list down which one is the first Disk in the RAID? I fear to scrumble it reverting the second drive with the first...

And how do I import the disks without formatting?

u'd better use a new usb drive.
keep the old usb drive, because the old config is on it.
use webgui to import (Disks menu). If its not working, dont save it, it wont write to ur disks.
if import is not working, try to intall a program to read ur usb drive. do u use ubuntu? if yes: http://askubuntu.com/questions/85154/mo ... filesystem

How can I tell the system to import configuration from the old usb drive? Cause it works with other disks, but with the RAID it can't mount it, it's says "Error - Retry" when trying to create the Mount Point (the disk is shown as running in the Disk Management menu)

I add that within the usb stick following the guide u linked in Ubuntu I can only see a .snap folder and a mfsroot.gz file that I cannot extract, what should I do now? Are all my Data on the RAID gone?

Here is what I got from logs

Code: Select all

Jul 23 03:29:21	nas	root: Error: Failed to unmount '/mnt/Data01'
Jul 23 03:29:42	nas	root: mount: /dev/ufsid/51145f01d87a3380: R/W mount of /mnt/Data denied. Filesystem is not clean - run fsck. Forced mount will invalidate journal contents: Operation not permitted
Jul 23 01:29:42	nas	kernel: GEOM: ada2: corrupt or invalid GPT detected.
Jul 23 01:29:42	nas	kernel: GEOM: ada2: GPT rejected -- may not be recoverable.
Jul 23 03:29:42	nas	root: Error: Failed to mount /dev/ufsid/51145f01d87a3380 using UFS
Edit: I tried running a fsck and it SEEMS to be ok. Now I'm gonna shutdown and go to sleep, tomorrow I'll start backing it up, that's sure :D

Thank you :)
