Can anyone offer advice on the GigaByte GA-F2A85XM-HD3 (rev. 1.2) motherboard?
Pros / Cons / Hardware compatibility with Nas4Free etc.
Looking to upgrade my 5 year old NAS server.
Thanks in advance

Re: GA-F2A85XM-HD3 (rev. 1.2)
I am not sure if this Hardware is not too new to be supported by FreeBSD 9 (check Hardware compatibility). Also the Graphics Hardware of the FM2 Series is overdone for this kind of Use, not to talk of energy consumption, Would go for a Socket 1155 based solution (like a i3 or Pentium G2020) , this would be more suitable for a usual NAS-usage....

Some of the newer Gigabytes are using unsupported nics. I have one I had to get an add in nic for... Might want to look at older stuff.

yes it looks like a good one. IPMI, internal usb header etc..
only thing i am unsure about are the intel nics.
they only introduced support in freebsd 8.4 which came out after freebsd 9.1.
so you might have to wait till august when freebsd 9.2 comes out.

Then this will be a top-of-the-list wait and see over the next 2-3 months to verify how this M/B compatibility pans out before committing and updating my antiquated NAS system.
