Salve a tutti,
il mio storage, che ovviamente usa Nas4free, è così composto:
nas4free 9.1.0.1 (775) 64bit
CPU Intel L5420
RAM 8GB
controller RAID con chipset LSI SAS2208
8 x HDD 3TB SATA Seagate in RAID 5
Ho forti dubbi su quale filesystem utilizzare (UFS o ZFS?) e come effettuare la configurazione per ottenere le miglior prestazioni.
Cercando su google non ho trovato molto aiuto sulla configurazione della parte di "Disks" utilizzando controller RAID dedicati ma solo SoftRAID.
Lo storage verrà utilizzato per contenere backup di VM linux e windows, logs, e snapshot delle VM stesse.

Allways use soft raid, never use embeded hardware raid.
And use ZFS , is better / more robust than UFS.

12.1.0.4 - Ingva (revision 7743) on SUPERMICRO X8SIL-F 8GB of ECC RAM, 11x3TB disk in 1 vdev = Vpool = 32TB Raw size , so 29TB usable size (I Have other NAS as Backup)

Il mio controller RAID non è embed sulla motherboard ma è una scheda dedicata acquistata apposta. Nella mia esperienza lavorativa le performance di uno storage con scheda dedicata sono migliori rispetto software RAID. Come dicevo prima l'utilizzo dello storage sarà abbastanza pesante. Ci saranno almeno tre server con Esxi 5.1 e una decina di VM (http, posta e DB). La rete è già tutta in gigabit su rame.
