USB mounts but not seen..( or heard haha!!! )

Post by idmah »

Hi all

Nube question.

1.Booted with the Nas4free CD works fine.
2.inserted USB - it seems to mount ok.
3.waited for a bit, just to make sure.
4. then pressed option 9 Install/Upgrade to hard drive/flash device, etc
5. selected option 1. Install 'embedded' OS on HDD/Flash/USB
6. press OK

get:

Code: Select all

[ERROR] Unable to open configuration file /etc/hast.conf No such file or directory

Failed to detect any CDROM/USB drive.
never gets to:
Select the Source CD drive (acd0 for example if you have only one ATA CDROM drive).
Select the Destination HDD that you want to install and boot NAS4Free from (da0 for example if you want to install it on a USB key).

tried two usb keys both Kinston.
one formatted Fat, the other brand new from package.
turned off USB 3.0 in bios and extender power USB just in case.. nada helped.
also tired several of the USB ports as well.

* Motherboard is Intel DZ68BC - info: http://www.intel.com/content/www/xr/en/ ... z68bc.html

ANY ideas???

Please tell us what version do You try. Because error is old, and not in newer version (supossed).

In your step install, replace step 1 ( boot from Cd). By boot from live USB . And be sure that use la test N4F 9.1.0.1.798
12.1.0.4 - Ingva (revision 7743) on SUPERMICRO X8SIL-F 8GB of ECC RAM, 11x3TB disk in 1 vdev = Vpool = 32TB Raw size , so 29TB usable size (I Have other NAS as Backup)

is your boot CD optical drive connected to the 3.0 or 6.0 SATA [try the other]
while the bios finds it, and it boots where it is, the OS is having problems finding it.

I have had trouble with USB connected to some USB ports where others on the same main board are fine.

Armandh thanks that did the trick .. I would have never thought it would have anything to do with the speed of the sata port.
I just figured if it read the disk to boot it could read the disk always.. silly me!

thanks

you are welcome
probably not the speed that is the issue but rather that part of the BSD system software that looks for the cd to mount is confused
there are likely more SATA chips than expected
