Realtek 8111G Lan Controller

Post by vkyk »

Purchased Asus's B85M-G mother board with onboard 8111G Lan & 16G ram for new Nas. But find 8111G is not supported by Nas4Free 847  . In addition to buy another NIC, any solution for using the onboard 8111G NIC?

Solution: wait to be supported or compile driver for it.

12.1.0.4 - Ingva (revision 7743) on SUPERMICRO X8SIL-F 8GB of ECC RAM, 11x3TB disk in 1 vdev = Vpool = 32TB Raw size , so 29TB usable size (I Have other NAS as Backup)

Do you mean use Advance-->loader.conf and add "if_re_load", "YES", description. I did. I run kldstat and console show if_re.ko is running but 8111G is still not workable.

yes that is right.

do you previosly copied new if_re.ko to /boot/kernel ??

and revise that is not deleted on reboot?

If you use full N4F copy to /boot/kernel is not deleted on reboot, if use embeded , you need to copy to your data disk and copy using preinit command webgui.

something like

Code: Select all

cp /mnt/mypool/temp/if_re.kp /boot/kernel

I wonder if a similar solution would work for the new Intel Nics installed on Z87 mobos...
Watercooling is just the beginning ;)

Late reply as I cannot reach nas4free webpage or to forum at my office which find such problem.

I use full version and check that a new if_re has been installed in /boot/kernel. And it is still NOT workable.

bad news, do not lose more time trying not working NIC, buy an Intel NIC, and forget.

Currently 28.5$ http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001CY0P7G quite cheap and works great. I have been using two of them for close to a year now without issues and get over 105MB/s sustained speeds. Not worth it to me to spend so much time trying to get buggy NIC to work.

Darn wish the Intel duel port was that cheap when I bought mine. Got mine last year and all duel port NICs were over $100 so it wasn't worth it.
