Drive was not properly dismounted

Post by Auction »

Hello! I need your help.
I've an old FreeNAS 7 box, it ran very good for years. But the system crashed after a properly shutdown yesterday. Error messages show as bellow when booting up

I've tried to use FreeNAS 8 and 9 Live CD to access the data drive, but error shows: "/mnt/xxx was not properly dismounted". I've also mounted the data drive to a Ubuntu server and Win-PC, but the Ubuntu cannot recognise it and the PC ask me to reformat it! I just want to get back the data inside.
Please help! Thank you very much.

Please read FAQ 001 : http://wiki.nas4free.org/doku.php?id=faq:0001 probably you need to do a fsck.
12.1.0.4 - Ingva (revision 7743) on SUPERMICRO X8SIL-F 8GB of ECC RAM, 11x3TB disk in 1 vdev = Vpool = 32TB Raw size , so 29TB usable size (I Have other NAS as Backup)

Is it possible you have the two drives reversed?

Your screen shot shows that the larger drive (presumably the data drive) is ad0
The smaller drive, presumably your boot drive, is ad3.

You could try responding to mountroot> with ufs:/dev/ad3s1a but if the drives are indeed detecting in reverse order, it would be best to fix that rather than further confuse the system.

Thank you very much for your reply. The server boots up normally as I follow your instruction but the data drive still cannot mount as usual. Lastly, I use ufs explorer to get back the data. Thanks again.
