[FIXED] NAS4Free locks up when UPS is attached via USB

Post by RagingLoon »

I have the Back-UPS ES BE550G and every time I attach it via USB NAS4Free becomes unresponsive.

The UPC settings are...
usbhid-ups
auto

I can't even change setting after I plug in the UPS because the system becomes inaccessible (GUI just times out) even via SSH. I have to do a hard reset just to restart the server after trying to set up my UPS. At least this UPS can and has saved me from brownouts, but I'd like to use it to it's full potential. Any troubleshooting steps/advice would be appreciated. I tried to set up this UPS back in December 0f 2012 with the same results and I vaguely remember having to reinstall NAS4Free for some reason after plugging in this UPS.

Overall the system runs awesome, great speeds over SAMBA 80MB + read and write, CPU and RAM to spare even while scrubbing and being being hit by multiple users. What's the deal with this dubious UPS?

Not exactly the response you'd hope for I guess but I recently upgrade to N4F r847 and as soon I would start transferring files over the network to the NAS box, UPS would loose (and find it again the next second) the connectivity to my apc500rs. The UPS is connected via USB as well so I guess something in the USB management changed and the default 5s timeout it too short during load.
The trick was to add auxiliary parameter: pollfreq=30 to UPS service. No more disconnections now.

Thanks, I'll try adding pollfreq=30 and see if it works when I have some down time. But I have my doubts it'll help since my system freezes up when I connect my UPS via USB. :(

Updated NAS4Free to 9.2.0.1 - Shigawire (revision 925) and my UPS is working great now. :)
