9.1.0.1 - Sandstorm (revision 847) embedded in a HP Proliant N40L Microserver.
I normally use the GUI Shutdown command, of course. However, if I touch the power switch briefly, the N40L shuts down after about 30 seconds (and the GUI gives no indication this is going to happen in an orderly fashion).
Should I NOT use the front panel, as NAS4Free sees it as a power cut? and I'm risking system corruption?

no risk, is a controlled shutdown.mooblie wrote: I'm risking system corruption?
you can modify how it works using hw.acpi.power_button_state in http://wiki.nas4free.org/doku.php?id=do ... ysctl.confmooblie wrote:Should I NOT use the front panel, as NAS4Free sees it as a power cut?
you can set S1 to S5 and disabled:
Code: Select all
Suspend states (S1–S5) supported by the BIOS.
S1 Quick suspend to RAM. The CPU enters a lower power
state, but most peripherals are left running.
S2 Lower power state than S1, but with the same basic
characteristics. Not supported by many systems.
S3 Suspend to RAM. Most devices are powered off, and the
system stops running except for memory refresh.
S4 Suspend to disk. All devices are powered off, and the
system stops running. When resuming, the system starts
as if from a cold power on. Not yet supported by FreeBSD
unless S4BIOS is available.
S5 System shuts down cleanly and powers off.12.1.0.4 - Ingva (revision 7743) on SUPERMICRO X8SIL-F 8GB of ECC RAM, 11x3TB disk in 1 vdev = Vpool = 32TB Raw size , so 29TB usable size (I Have other NAS as Backup)

OK, thanks. Good to know.
I see that hw.acpi.power_button_state is already present in my system by default, set to:

...but it's NOT Enabled. So I could enable that, with a Value=S5?
But you say it's doing that already?
(Or have I misunderstood? Quite likely!)

"NONE" must work, and your power button must be disabled, but if not work, try to use "DISABLE" instead.
PD: perhaps NONE= Default value = S5 , or perhaps hw.acpi.power_button_state do not work in your system (you need to have ACPI enable to work)

you need to set it to S5
Nas4Free 11.1.0.4.4517. Supermicro X10SLL-F, 16gb ECC, i3 4130, IBM M1015 with IT firmware. 4x 3tb WD Red, 4x 2TB Samsung F4, both GEOM AES 256 encrypted.

Re: OK to use front panel power switch on HP N40L Proliant?
Thank you both: all done now. Set Value=S5 (and enabled it!) and it works well.

Confirmed by monitoring the VGA screen output during Shutdown. If done via (a) GUI, (b) Command Prompt or (c) Power Button, it takes the same steps and elapsed time to Shut Down in an orderly fashion (except there's no "Are you sure?" with the Power Button!)
Thanks again.

Realise this is an old thread but trying to address this now on my N36L as my son aged 2 keeps shutting it down. I could move it but I like where it is.
Is it possible to completely disable it from the panel?

no the 4 second press is a event that can not be caught via software.
