Backup on a eSATA drive

Post by yuchia »

Hi

I just built a NAS running NAS4Free. Fairly new to it.

I'm trying to backup my data to an external hard drive, connected using eSATA.

I was able to backup to the same drive connected using USB 2.0 based on the method described in the FAQ.
http://wiki.nas4free.org/doku.php?id=faq:0006

However, I found the transfer speed was painfully slow so I bought an external enclosure with eSTAT interface. My motherboard doesn't have USB 3.0.

I have a couple questions:
1. I would like to use the same method, i.e., modifying /etc/devd.conf, to automatically run the backup script. However, it doesn't seem to be working. I connected the drive and some messages showed up, describing the drive. However, the script doesn't start. (not log from the script). I was able to run the script directly.
2. How can I disconnect the hard drive? I have set the hard drive to be hot pluggable in the BIOS. If I unmount the drive and it's safe to disconnect?

Thank you,
Joseph

If the drive is un mounted and usb you should be able to unplug once the dismount is done.
