Hi everyone,
this is my first NAS4Free I amtrying to set up, so I hope you bear with me.
I did a clean install of the latest NAS4Free-version on new hardware, traing to set up an iSCSI-based NAS-device to be used by my Windows-machines. Here is what I did:
- enable the iSCSI-service and pressed the "Save and Restart" button
- created to extents for the two harddisks, that are present within the box (no software-TAID here). Both disks are formatted using the UFS file-system and are configured as type "device"
- set up a portal without any specials (just added my NAS4Free's IP-address) and allowed all iSCSI-Initiators from the local subnet
I am able to add the second hard-disk as a target, but when trying to add the first (where also resides the "full OS"-installation of NAS4Free, I get the message "Error: The changes could not be applied (error code 1)." upon applying the changes I made.
The system log shows:

Oct 2 17:24:41 lmb-nas smartd[1776]: Device: /dev/ada0, 3240 Offline uncorrectable sectors
Could this really be a hardware issue, or am I doing somethign wrong ?
I am unsure since the hardware is brand new.
Regards
Tobias

Re: stuck on setting up iSCSI
You cannot define system disk as iSCSI target. Run fsck for it now

Re: stuck on setting up iSCSI
second Alexey's comment. You cannot use the system disk for a iSCSI target. Get a USB drive and install the embedded version on the USB. That will free up the first disk and iSCSI will operate as expected.
