Need swap device?

Post by helloha »

Hi,

Do I need a swap device in my setup?

I run 8 Disks in ZFS but maybe I need one for the OS or for nas4free?

Under system-->advanced-->swap I selected a UFS swap disk.

But under processes it still says there is no swap disk?

Code: Select all

last pid: 7927; load averages: 0.11, 0.12, 0.08 up 0+02:20:30 11:39:03
17 processes: 1 running, 16 sleeping

Mem: 25M Active, 33M Inact, 10G Wired, 19M Buf, 13G Free
ARC: 9988M Total, 397M MFU, 9460M MRU, 784K Anon, 64M Header, 66M Other

My opinnion is : if you have 8GB of RAM or more, you simply do not need swap, but is only a opinnion not a rule.
12.1.0.4 - Ingva (revision 7743) on SUPERMICRO X8SIL-F 8GB of ECC RAM, 11x3TB disk in 1 vdev = Vpool = 32TB Raw size , so 29TB usable size (I Have other NAS as Backup)

I have 24GB of RAM.

But if I wanted to, how would I go about creating a swap disk?

K.
