Large directories on my nas would chug somewhat. I had tried several fixes in windows that had minimal effect.
This change helped the most. Now huge mp3 directories pop up.

Are you referring to the send and receive buffer size?
Its default is 64240

play with this values, sometimes great values works fine, other times small values are better ( for me 0=zero is the better value).
12.1.0.4 - Ingva (revision 7743) on SUPERMICRO X8SIL-F 8GB of ECC RAM, 11x3TB disk in 1 vdev = Vpool = 32TB Raw size , so 29TB usable size (I Have other NAS as Backup)
