Tape device with autoloader ?

Post by Abysmal »

Hi All.
I have a SCSI HP SureStore 24x6 tape drive with autoloader.
It configured as SCSI ID 6 LUN 0 for main device and LUN 1 for autoloader.
tape drive installed in the NAS4Free as SCSI ID 6 LUN 0 but not installed autoloader.
  • Mar 29 12:13:11 nas4free kernel: sa0 at trm0 bus 0 scbus0 target 6 lun 0
    Mar 29 12:13:11 nas4free kernel: sa0: <HP C1537A U709> Removable Sequential Access SCSI-2 device
    Mar 29 12:13:11 nas4free kernel: sa0: 10.000MB/s transfers (10.000MHz, offset 15)
What should I do to get access to the management an autoloader.

I think I found the problem. I use Tekram DC-315U. It's a simple controller. Probably it can not work with more than one LUN on the SCSI-ID.
Will look smarter SCSI.

Did you have any luck with a new controller? I am having a similar problem with a Dell TL2000 tape library on a QLogic Fibre Channel controller...

It almost looks like changer devices are not built into the release. I don't see any 'ch' device driver and there is no 'chio' binary to control the changer. Would it be possible to build the 'ch' device as a module and load it at boot time? If not, what is involved in adding the driver to the kernel and making it work. I REALLY need to get this tape library online (I told my boss that I needed something to back up the storage server and we bought the tape drive for that purpose.) Currently, I am backing up to tape, but handling the tape changing manually.
