Resilvering is very slow

Post by Apprentice »

Hi guys,

i have a problem with 9.1.0.1 - Sandstorm (revision 531).

After replacing a 2TB Disk with a 4TB Disk i added the new disk to the existing pool and Nas4Free started resilvering.
But it´s very very slow as you can see here:

pool: Archiv
state: DEGRADED
status: One or more devices is currently being resilvered. The pool will
continue to function, possibly in a degraded state.
action: Wait for the resilver to complete.
scan: resilver in progress since Tue Apr 1 06:09:56 2014
29.7G scanned out of 6.66T at 1.33M/s, (scan is slow, no estimated time)
7.44G resilvered, 0.44% done
config:

NAME STATE READ WRITE CKSUM
Archiv DEGRADED 0 0 0
raidz1-0 DEGRADED 0 0 0
replacing-0 OFFLINE 0 0 0
18175907443448047947 OFFLINE 0 0 0 was /dev/ada0/old
ada0 ONLINE 0 0 0 (resilvering)
ada1 ONLINE 0 0 0
ada2 ONLINE 0 0 0
ada3 ONLINE 0 0 0

errors: No known data errors

Is there anything i can do to accelerate the resilvering process ?

regards
thomas

I notice in my experience that when a resilver is very slow, this indicate some type of problem in other/s disk/s in the pool.

SMART Values of all your disk, perhaps can help to identify problematic/s disk, but do not try to read in the middle of a scrub, because your scrub process can fail and in the worst case you can lose data.
12.1.0.4 - Ingva (revision 7743) on SUPERMICRO X8SIL-F 8GB of ECC RAM, 11x3TB disk in 1 vdev = Vpool = 32TB Raw size , so 29TB usable size (I Have other NAS as Backup)

I recently replaced my 3 x 1.5TB with 3TB drives using resilvering. It easily took over 12 hours to resilver the 3TB (raid z1 pool size) on each drive.

You have 2x the data to resilver with lower spec hardware, expect it to take much longer.

Nas4Free 11.1.0.4 - Atomics (revision 4517) Embedded
MB: Biostar TA790GXE
CPU: AMD Athlon X2 245 (65w)
RAM: 8gb DDR2
NIC: Onboard Realtek 1Gbit
Controller: Onboard 6x SATA II
Storage: Raid Z1 2x 3TB Seagate Barracuda ST3000DM001, 1x 3TB HGST HDN724030ALE640

Hi,

sorry for the late reply.

Looks like i just had to be patient. Yesterday morning it resilvered with 40MB/s and after 36h it finally resilvered without any erros.
