CAM status: ATA Status Error / DMA Error. UDM3 vs UDMA5

Post by sebastien »

Hi there,
I'm a newbie on the forum but working on FreeNAS since few years.

I'm mounting a new NAS using a P4 on ASRock Motherboard, 4GB RAM and few HDDs :
2 SATA HDDs (news)
4 IDE HDDs, two of it make me crazy with following DMA errors :
(ada5:ata1:0:1:0): READ_DMA. ACB: c8 00 00 00 00 40 00 00 00 00 01 00
(ada5:ata1:0:1:0): CAM status: ATA Status Error
(ada5:ata1:0:1:0): ATA status: 51 (DRDY SERV ERR), error: 84 (ICRC ABRT )
(ada5:ata1:0:1:0): RES: 51 84 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 01 00

I allready change the ATA cable and Master/CS are clear.

The HDDs are clear while running FSCK and on an other with Windows.

Lookink at my BIOS I noticed this two old HDD are UDMA3 while Nas4Free load them with UDM5.

ada4 at ata1 bus 0 scbus3 target 0 lun 0
ada4: da1 at umass-sim0 bus 0 scbus5 target 0 lun 1
da1: <Generic USB CF Reader 1.01> Removable Direct Access SCSI-0 device

ada5 at ata1 bus 0 scbus3 target 1 lun 0
ada5: <ST3120024A 3.33> ATA-6 device
ada5: 100.000MB/s transfers (UDMA5, PIO 8192bytes)
ada5: 114473MB (234441648 512 byte sectors: 16H 63S/T 16383C)

Other drives support UDMA6 and work perfectly with NAS4Free, so I think this must be the cause of my troubles.

Is it a way to force UDMA3 on these 2 HDDs?

Regards
