Rsync on 2 local drives, try to mirror, can't delete

Post by paramecie »

Hi! Thanks for your help.

NAS4Free 9.1.0.1 - Sandstorm

I have in this NAS 2 different physical HDD I want to MIRROR (but "manually", not using RAID...)
One is the source and the second should be its mirror.

I didn't run the RSync service.
I just created a Local RSync in the GUI, from /mnt/MEDIA/ to /mnt/MEDIABACK/.
I checked "Recurse...", "Preserve mod times", "Archive...", "Delete..."+Default, "Preserve permissions", "Preserve extended.."
I run it manually in its Settings (Edit) using "Execute now", every month or so...

The copy is perfect, but I discovered it doesn't mirror, as it doesn't *delete* the extra files in the target disk (the files which were deleted manually on the source disk).
No way - whatever the Delete options I tested like Default, Before, After... :-(

Questions: is this normal ? How can I set it up that it mirrors ? If not, is there another solution that I don't know about? Thanks a lot for your hints.

Hi

Maybe you can try to run your rsync as 'root' user :?: ;)

Absoluuutely, Sir.

I am/was sure the rsync user had enough priviledges to delete files, but apparently and maybe for some specific files it couldn't delete.
With the user root it works perfectly now.
