Any reason to upgrade from 9 1 0 1 sandstorm?

For "upgrading" from FreeNAS/NAS4Free Legacy to XigmaNAS and upgrading XigmaNAS to newer builds.

Any reason to upgrade from 9 1 0 1 sandstorm?

Post by RAJOD »

Its been over a years since I upgrade my version of nas4free. Why? Well if its not broke don't fix it.

I did try a version 9.?? which broke my extensions so I reverted back and never bothered to try another version.

What features have I missed out on?

Mine is a RAID 1 ZFS version 9.1.0.1 rev 847 Sandstorm

Extensions I run are

- minidlna
- btsync

Hardware
- intel G1610 dual core @ 2.60 Ghz
- 8 gigs ram (20 % utilized max)
- 2 WD REDS 2TB raid 1 ZFS

Use - backups, TV movie streams.

Its been rock solid, can be up 100 days no issues. Not even a scrub error. (yet)

Any compelling reason to upgrade to newer version?

Thanks

not yet, maybe future versions (FREEBSD 10 based) may offer better Power Mangement. In 9.2 WOL is less reliable than in 9.1.
So stay and wait to see if a functionality improves which you need...

Thanks for the reply. Yea power management is not high on my list especially since my cpu is super low powered to begin with.
