I'm currently running Freenas 0.7.2 with 4 1.5TB WD15EVDS, yes they are EVDS NOT ERDS. They are the AV-GP bought specifically because they were still 512kb sectors and rated for 24/7 without being crazy expensive. Anyway I have them in a ZFS pool running off a Promise TX4 300 controller card.
I am looking to make another NAS system for backup and use the original for streaming. I haven't been following the FreeNAS / Nas4Free areas lately so I don't know if 4k sectors are still a problem for ZFS or not. I'm thinking of getting 4 WD Red drives and another promise TX4. I just don't know if:
1. 4k Sectors are ok to use now.
2. Anyone know if the TX4 will work with 4k sector drives?
Could someone please recommended a relatively inexpensive SATA card preferably with 4 ports (don't need hardware raid function since I still plan on using ZFS) and some 2TB drives that will work well.
Thanks.

Re: HD and Controller Recommendation.
I cannot comment about the controller part of the question, but I can say that 4k sectors are fine ... I'm running 4 x 1.5T WD Greens (WD15EARS-00MVWB0) in stripped mirror with NAS4Free. I been looking for cheap drives as well and though about getting bunch of 2 TB WD reds...
